A dream was born in July of 1986. At that time, Jackie Sparks (occupational therapist) and JoAnn Kelly (speech
pathologist) were working with three multi-handicapped young children. Seeing a huge void in the Mt. Washington Valley for special needs childcare programs, Sparks and Kelly decided to open a center specializing in early
intervention and inclusive childcare. Children Unlimited, Inc. opened its doors in July 1986 and so began a long history of caring…
One of the first in New Hampshire to integrate typically developing and special needs children, Children Unlimited, Inc. quickly developed a fine reputation as one of the top childcare facilities in the area. With a professional staff on hand, one by one parents of children who were typically developing also came looking for quality childcare and play groups. The small childcare center rapidly grew out of its location on Mechanic Street and moved to its current location on West Main Street in Conway. By October of 1986, the local school district and state preschool coordinator approached Sparks and Kelly and asked Children Unlimited, Inc. to start a preschool that would also accommodate special needs children.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2006, Children Unlimited, Inc. has grown from a small center with five full and part-time staff and twenty children, to its current staff of twenty-four full and part-time staff, serving nearly 300
families yearly within the center and in the community.
Recognized nationally, regionally and locally for its extraordinary commitment and dedication to serving the needs of young children, Children Unlimited, Inc. has established itself as a model childcare facility that has
consistently been at the forefront of implementing innovative and comprehensive programs for young children.
